LOCATION
Newberg is a prosperous, diversified and growing community of 23,000 citizens. Situated in the Chehalem Valley at the upper end of the Willamette valley it is about 25 miles southwest of Portland on Highway 99W. Located in the “Center of Oregon Wine County,” Newberg is conveniently located just 15 minutes from Interstate 5, 45 minutes from the Portland International Airport and just over an hour from the Pacific Ocean Beaches.
Newberg has the advantage of being near the metropolitan areas of Portland and Salem while maintaining the integrity of it beautiful agricultural setting. Today Newberg is the second largest city in Yamhill County. Newberg and the surrounding countryside is widely regarded for its panoramic beauty. Rolling verdant hills, agricultural lands and well preserved historic structures characterize the picturesque quality of the community.
BUSINESS & AGRICULTURE
The Newberg area is home to a significant number of manufacturing businesses. A-dec, Inc and Climax Portable Machine Tools are among the areas largest employers. Yamhill County boasts a rich, varied agricultural economy, producing 167 varieties of crops. The region grows 90 percent of the nation’s hazelnuts. Other principal products include wheat, dairy, a variety of fruits, livestock, wine grapes, vegetables, tree and plant nurseries. The area’s wineries are among the finest in the state and have achieved world attention for their pinot noir varieties.
HEALTHCARE & EDUCATION
Providence Newberg Medical Center is a regional state-of-the-art hospital with expanded services in surgery, diagnostic imaging, emergency medicine, obstetrics and more. Portland Community College (PCC) opened a Newberg Campus in 2011. PCC advances the region’s long-term vitality by delivering accessible, quality education to support the academic, professional and personal development of the surrounding community. Newberg is also home to the prestigious George Fox University (GFU). GFU is a Christian university of the arts, science, and professional studies and Newberg’s second largest employer. Within the Newberg School District are five elementary, two middle schools and a four-year high school. Newberg also boasts a modern library.
TOURISM & RECREATION
Newberg is home to Oregon’s first luxury inn. Opened in 2009 The Allison Inn and Spa has garnered world-wide media attention for its world-class amenities. Visitors from around the world are attracted to this one of a kind destination resort. Chehalem Parks and Recreation operates a model park and recreation district which consist of more than 100 acres of parkland, indoor swimming pool, a Willamette River Kayak/Canoe concession and a highly rated 18 hole municipal golf course.
ARTS
The Chehalem Cultural Center was opened in 2009 after plans for an extensive multi-million dollar remodel of the former Central School Site. The 40,000 square foot building opened after phase 1 was completed and is home to art exhibits, music and art classes and community based art and music events. The Chehalem Center Association is currently fundraising to complete the remodel for the rest of the building which includes an expansive ball-room and concert facility.
TRANSPORTATION
The Newberg area is served by Sportsman Airpark (a privately owned airport), McMinnville Municipal Airport and is within one hour driving time to Portland International Airport. Local public transportation options also exist for the Newberg area traveler through LINK Transportation. Private taxi and limousine service is also available from local providers.
The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), working closely with the local community to build the Newberg Dundee Bypass, an 11 mile, four lane, access-controlled expressway around the cities of Newberg and Dundee. The proposed project is needed to reduce congestion on Oregon 99W through Newberg and Dundee by redirecting traffic to the Bypass. Phase I of the transportation project will begin construction in 2014.
Newberg Services
Freight is moved to and from Newberg via the Portland & Western Railroad. This railroad provides freight service throughout the Willamette valley as well as multiple ports along the western end of the Columbia River between Portland and Astoria.Newberg is the crossroads for State Highways 99W, 219 and 240. It is located along a key route between the Portland metro area and Oregon’s Pacific Coast. In addition, motorists can access Interstate 5 within 15 minutes.
Other nearby airports includes Aurora State Airport (the third busiest airport in Oregon) and McMinnville Municipal Airport.
The Yamhill County Transit Authority provides mass transit services for Newberg through an extensive fixed route services as well as a Dial-a-Ride service curb-to-curb. The Authority operates throughout Yamhill County and makes frequent connections with TriMet, which provides transit services for thePortland metro region.
Port of Portland
Newberg is located about 30 miles southwest of Port of Portland facilities. Air Service – Portland International Airport (PDX) has been voted the best airport in the US four of the last five years by Conde’ Nast Traveler Magazine. PDX provides extensive services to national and international destinations, including direct flights to Asia and Europe.
Marine Service – The Port of Portland’s marine facilities is one of the largest on the west coast of the US. It operates 4 marine terminals that principally provide international transportation services for automobiles, mineral and agricultural bulk commodities as well as general cargo.
Rail Service – The Port of Portland rail facilities coordinates freight transportation services with the extensive operations of the BNSF and Union Pacific railroads.

TAXES AND FEES
Local taxes – Newberg has no sales or income tax. In fiscal year 2011-2012, total property taxes in Newberg are calculated at $16.59 per thousand, of which $4.69 is used for City of Newberg operations.
Transient Lodging Tax – The current rate is 6 percent.
Business License fees – Businesses located and/or operating within Newberg must maintain a business license. Annual fees for the license are calculated as follows:

Home occupation $25.00
A temporary merchant operating for less than 45 days will be charged $50.00 for a business license. A temporary merchant operating for more than 45 days within a 12 month period will be charged $75.00 for a business license.
